Unfortunately the majority of younger generation of trainers think they know it all. Just because it is written on Google by some muppet who has doped up on PED's does not mean that it is right or works. Lets look at one such instance of a young arrogant trainer and their ignorance as they rode their high horse into a conversation that they had no idea about. Sodium benzoate is a preservative YES you are correct. However it is a natural preservative found in It is the sodium salt of benzoic acid and exists in this form when dissolved in water. It can be produced by reacting sodium hydroxide with benzoic acid. Benzoic acid occurs naturally at low levels in cranberries, prunes, greengage plums, cinnamon, ripe cloves, and apples. It is most widely used in acidic foods such as salad dressings (vinegar), carbonated drinks (carbonic acid), jams and fruit juices (citric acid), pickles (vinegar), and condiments. It is also used as a preservative in medicines and cosmetics. Sodium Benzoate causes Cancer Yes if you are a uniorgasimic cell living outside of you host. There are a handful of studies that show that in vitro (so outside of the human body, in a petri dish) in doses of 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μg/ml) that it causes damage to the DNA but it did not affect the replication index. Therefore the DNA damage was not replicated when the cells split. In the United States, sodium benzoate is designated as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration. The International Programme on Chemical Safety found no adverse effects in humans at doses of 647–825 mg/kg of body weight per day. BUT HANG ON Apple contain Sodium Benzoate but they are also have antioxidant properties that help protect against cancer-inducing oxidative damage. SHOCK HORROR how can that be??? So you would have to be having a significant amount of Sodium Benzoate to be having any effect at all on your body. In fact it is used to treat numerous disorders effectively. It has been found to act as a treatment for urea cycle disorders due to its ability to bind amino acids. This leads to excretion of these amino acids and a decrease in ammonia levels. Recent research shows that sodium benzoate may be beneficial as an add-on therapy (1 gram/day) in schizophrenia. Total Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale scores dropped by 21% compared to placebo. Sodium benzoate is also used to treat hyperammonemia. Sodium benzoate has been shown to halt the progression of Parkinson's in mice. The list of benefits of this NATURAL PRESERVATIVE is many and this is only a few of them. So if you are concerned about this NATURAL PRESERVATIVE then you probably need to stop eating and drinking all of the above. If you are looking for a fault in any product whether it be natural or otherwise you will find a fault in it as that is what we humans do.

WE LOOK FOR FAULTS RATHER THEN POSITIVES. So before you go jumping up and down at an ingredient in a product a couple of tips 1. Do you research and don't rely on Google and vested interested sites 2. Don't insult the person you are talking to about it with your limited knowledge. Do some research on them as well. 3. Finally don't burn your bridges as you never know when you will need to cross them again. In summary Sodium Benzoate is a NATURAL PRESERVATIVE and in dosages approved for human consumption and that occur naturally in the environment as well as being consumed by millions of people daily you are NOT going develop CANCER from it. By the way just so you know apples also contain CYANIDE.
